- First of all - I fell head over heels in love with San Francisco and I only saw the tiny bit of it that I could run/walk in a 24 hour period...
who knows what NEXT year will bring, but as of now; I can't wait to go back.
- The wharf is home to the most GINORMOUS seagulls i have ever seen in my life! The poor little pigeons look like gnats in comparison. I may have gotten a *tad obsessed with these strapping fellows during my visit... hence their prominent billing in my POSTCARD FROM FISHERMAN'S WHARF;
- the scenery along this 22 hour route was consistently stunning; the sun rose early to reveal old growth pine forests rising up on mountains bordering both sides of the train, and progressed all day long into marshes filled with bird life like pelicans and egrets, to mountain lakes, to the port of Seattle.
- As is becoming my tradition, I went for a much needed run as soon as I got off the train and dropped my bags at the hostel. It was exciting to see this new city by night - running up second avenue and then down through the Public Market (dodging swarms of Sea Hawks fans from the game that had just let out). I am looking forward to seeing it all again today at a slower pace and in daylight!
